Adding tags & connecting on the Nearby map

Tags are short hashtags that describe the circles you belong to — like #alumni, #cricket or #temple. The Nearby map shows how many relatives near a spot share a tag with you, without revealing anyone by name until someone chooses to ping. You decide which tags make you findable and which let people ping you.

  1. Open the Relatives tab and switch to the Map view.
  2. Tap the tag icon to edit your tags. Type a word — FamiVox turns it into a hashtag like #alumni — and add as many as you like, then Save.
  3. Tap the groups icon to set visibility per tag. "Discoverable" lets others find you in that group; "Can be pinged" lets them send you a meet-up ping, and only turns on when Discoverable is on.
  4. On the map, a badge shows how many relatives near a spot share a tag with you — names stay hidden until a ping is sent.
  5. Tap a cluster to broadcast a visit ping to people there who are open to it; anyone who hasn't opted in is skipped automatically.

Tip: Keep "Can be pinged" on only for the tags where you're happy to be contacted — you stay discoverable without inviting pings on the rest.
